The State of Florida's worker's compensation laws are designed to protect its workers and requires most employers to provide coverage to injured workers by paying into the Worker’s Compensation Insurance Program. Injured workers then are paid from this program for lost wages and medical costs. Eligibility for these benefits is dependent upon the worker proving that they suffered an injury or occupational disease during the course of their employment. If the injury suffered is shown to be “worked-related,” then the employee is compensated for lost wages and medical bills.
